Magic: The Gathering
This is a collection of decks and cards that I own and plans I have for future decks. I have been playing Magic for a long time now, ever since I was 12, and have never quite stopped thinking about the game. I began playing in Theros block (I played a mono black devotion deck in standard) and took a break from Magic that started around the release of Ixalan, I have returned to playing the game after introducing the game to my partner. I did not expect her to enjoy the game so much but I could not be happier with the decision of teaching her the game because now I have someone to play the game with whenever I want! I plan to keep this page updated with my decklists and my trade binder.
To Do List:
Commander Decks
I have played EDH/Commander for almost as long as I have played the game itself. When I was first getting a grasp on the game I was mostly playing prerelease because it was the best bang for middle school me's buck. It wasn't until 2015, when my friend came to me and slammed down a 100 card deck in front of me, that I started playing the Commander format. I know that there are differing opinions on the format, I too hold some opinions on it, but it just became the easiest way to play for someone who doesn't have the time, or money, to keep up with the latest sets' cards and staples. A non-rotating format is very appealing. Below are all the decks I currently own or am building.
Izzet Spellslinger
- General: Mizzix of the Izmagnus
This was the very first commander deck I ever made and I still keep it updated to this day. It was one of the first popular spellslinger commanders and in my opinion still holds up against the absolute torrent of new Izzet spellslinger commanders that have come out and continue to come out every single set. The deck has 50 instants and sorceries, and has a ton of card draw and card selection. I used to play a more control heavy version of the deck, but that wasn't very popular with other players, so I ended up removing Spellburst and a couple other counterspells. The goal of the control in the deck was reeled in from countering EVERYTHING to contering only things that disrupt me. There are a couple of ways the deck wins. There are two infinite mana combos in the deck (Turnabout and Reiterate, Jeska's Will and Reiterate) that lead to wins, but the deck can also win with a storm-like win with Sphinx-Bone Wand or Inexorable Tide, and through splashy cards like Expropriate, Rite of Replication, and Insurrection.
Keyword Tribal
- General: Odric, Lunarch Marshal
This is my "most fair" deck. It is also the only other deck I made before my break from magic. Just because the deck is fair does not mean that it is a bad deck though. The deck wins through combat, which is typically a bad win condition in commander in my eyes because it is so disruptible and vulnerable to crackbacks once you do attack. Knowing this, the deck runs a lot of protection in the form of equipment and instants. As for the other problem of being attacked after you do, this deck naturally solves that problem by granting all your creatures vigilance, along with every other keyword abilty. This makes it extremely difficult to favorably attack this deck without a one-sided boardwipe or a lot of removal. The deck has a way to grant every single keyword on Odric except for reach, because flying makes it redundant, and skulk, sorry Skeleton Key.
Reanimator Toolbox
- General: Whisper, Blood Liturgist
This deck came about after I made an attempt in making a deck out of only cards in my collection, without buying or trading for any cards. The deck was... not good, but it did give me a taste of playing a reanimator deck. Reanimate effects are rarely at instant speed, but this commander is a repeatable way of doing just that. That gives it a lot of flexibility, which is what lead to the deck becoming a sort of toobox deck. A toolbox deck works by being able to have an answer to every problem it might face by searching it's library for them, like a toolbox! At first I didn't really realize this play pattern and the deck had around 7 tutors and Thornbite Staff, which makes Whisper infinite with basically anything. This version of the deck was really boring, as I would tutor for Thornbite Staff every single game and win. I ended up removing Thornbite Staff and Buried Alive in favor of more answers, which made the deck more variable and fun to play with and against. Below is the first custom card I made for this deck. As you can see, the results were rough. I am happy with the art itself but the color from the masking tape ended up bleeding onto the card, the lettering is just my hand writting, and the surface is a bit damaged.
Red Burn Storm
- General: Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might
It is pronounced Oh-her Ash-oh-kneel, if you say it wrong I am targeting you. Funnily enough, just as I was getting back into Magic with the release of Commander Masters, I was looking to play a burn commander and looking at some of the options that had recently come out. Just as I was brewing around with the idea, Lost Caverns of Ixalan was spoiled and I saw HIM! I instantly knew I wanted to play him and traded for him at the LCI prerelease, he is perfect. To me he looks like a war god that is possibly based on Huītzilōpōchtli but instead of his sword being a fire serpent, he just has a flaming sword and a dinosaur "serpent" for an arm. When building the deck, I went for an all or nothing mentality. It is not exactly a CEDH deck, but I have goldfished a game where it won on turn 2, and it consistently wins by turn 5. As the deck name suggests, it is a storm deck that looks to use cast triggers to ping the enemy and magnify that damage with Ojer Axonil. I still haven't finished building this deck. The decklist is set, but I need about 30% of the cards. I DO NOT own a real copy of Wheel of Fortune for this deck. I made my own version that can be seen below:
